Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Premise Technician to repair, replace, install, and maintain wiring and switches for Joint Base Charleston.  This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and install connectors for use in local area networks (LAN) and automated communications systems. 
  • Utilize test equipment such as LAN testers, fiber testers, and other continuity testers. 
  • Perform full range of cable maintenance, splicing, termination, and transmission work on fiber and copper cables. 
  • Create and maintain database, and modify program contents to provide for new data preferred experience with office systems.  
  • Determine installation and maintenance methods using applicable Industry Standards, base facility standards, technical manuals, wiring diagrams, specification lists, engineered project drawings, building facility drawings, and communications system installation records.  
  • Coordinate with other departments as necessary to perform operational maintenance tests, interface with equipment, and change requirements affecting maintenance and installation activities.  
  • Review, update, and generate documents supporting the communication systems.

Qualifications

3+ years experience providing installation and maintenance for copper and fiber cables supporting voice and data networks.  Must hold the following BICSI certifications: Installer 2 Copper (INSTC) and Installer 2 Optical Fiber (INSTF).  Experience with LAN/WAN and telecommunication networks.  Experience in fault isolation and reconstitution of fixed cable and LAN/WAN.  Must possess the understanding and knowledge of basic electronic principles, fiber optics and light wave transmissions.  Capable of reading and interpreting technical drawings including infrastructure design and splicing diagrams.  Able to splice various sizes of fiber optic and copper cables.  Familiar with test equipment and cable testing procedures.  Knowledge of safety precautions related to cable splicing.  Knowledge LAN/WAN media distribution systems and cabling.  May be required to crawl under/behind customer work environments to gain access to client systems.  Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted.  May be required to perform physical acts such climbing to obtain access to systems.  Must be comfortable working in an office environment and outside in a variety of conditions.  Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
