Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Wireless Network Engineer to provide technical support for the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) at Randolph AFB.  This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities

  • Review vendor project deliverables: site surveys, as-builts, topologies, IP workbooks, etc.
    • Validate that switch locations and AP connections are properly depicted in diagrams.
    • Review and verify accuracy of topology updates before submission.
    • Ensure as-built documentation reflects field installations accurately.
    • Make recommendations for acceptance or rejection of project deliverables to government lead/Site PM.
  • Create and update network diagrams (switch locations, APs, and cabling) using MS Visio.
  • Process monthly metrics: all supported AWAKEN sites and Top or key sites as identified by management or reports.
  • Conduct and analyze periodic saturation reports to identify potential capacity issues and trends.
    • Identify and provide recommendations to resolve wireless or network issues.
  • Monitor networks using Aruba Airwave, SolarWinds toolset, and Aruba Mobility Conductor.
  • Assist Configuration Manager (CM)/ISSM/project team in preparing for Change Control Board (CCB) meetings.
  • Update project deliverables tracker to ensure project documentation stays current.
  • Verify site configurations and device statuses in network monitoring tools.
  • Assist with troubleshooting wireless connectivity issues escalated by AASD help desk.
    • Respond to AWAKEN Network questions from AASD help desk regarding customer issues.
    • Track site-related issues to ensure resolution and closure.
    • Coordinate with AASD help desk for ticket submissions and issue resolution.

Qualifications

+ years experience in network engineering or administration.  Bachelor’s degree in a related field.  Must hold one of the following certifications: CISSP, SecurityX (formerly CASP+ CE), CSSLP, or CCNP-Security.  Proficient with both wired and wireless network design principles.  Familiar with the latest emerging telecommunications and networking technologies.  Experience conducting requirements analysis and design.  Experience conducting network planning and engineering and design activities.  Experience reviewing and evaluating network design solutions.  Experience providing engineering expertise for entire project cycle including requirements, design, equipment selection, implementation, acceptance, and lifecycle cost development.  Experience conducting surveys to gather data, prepare and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, and other visual aids.  Must have strong communications skills and be detail-oriented and self-motivated.  Demonstrated strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.  Able to effectively prioritize multiple projects and demonstrate professional customer service skills.  Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
