Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Systems/Network Technician to provide technical support for the AFCENT Network Operations and Security Center (NOSC) at Shaw AFB as part of a 24/7/365 support environment.  This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier 1 enterprise IT help desk technical support to deployed
  • Troubleshoot and implement solutions to resolve incidents and problems on supported systems/network infrastructure, to include enterprise-level routers, switches, servers, firewalls, proxies and caching arrays.
  • Monitor systems/network performance metrics and trends to identify substandard performance and anomalies.
  • Escalate complex systems/network performance, bandwidth and security issues and incidents to senior engineers/SMEs (Tier 2 and 3) for analysis and
  • Operate NOSC network intrusion devices and information assurance tools.
  • Provide LAN support and WAN Enterprise
  • Provide support in the application of network security devices at Tier 0, Tier 1, and Tier 2 of network architecture.
  • Install and maintain the application of network devices such as routers, switches, bridges, and hubs.
  • Implement wide area and local area network architectures.
  • Perform installation and administration hardware, software and services in client-server environment.
  • Optimize operations on a network and systems level.
  • Configure DHCP, WINS, DNS, and Active Directory (AD).
  • Apply proper security measures to safeguard government LAN as closed networks or when integrated in to an Enterprise environment.
  • Implement Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) technology for network and systems access.
  • Assist deployed IT support staff with the use and migration of PKI-enabled systems.
  • Recommend appropriate changes/resolutions in response to observed trends in Enterprise Level Cisco and Microsoft fault isolation and correction.
  • Configure and maintain DNS and BIND domain name services on both UNIX and Microsoft platforms.
  • Implement Certificate Authority (CA), Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP), and LEAP server PKI technologies used to support the enterprise.
  • Develop, review, and provide comments to plans and drawings; coordinate and process new requirements; prepare technical solutions and cost estimates for emerging requirements; attend design, status and other project meetings; and provide ad hoc reports and briefings upon government request.
  • Perform preventive, remedial, and corrective maintenance to ensure equipment and/or systems are in full operating condition as described by the equipment manufacturer without degradation of service.
  • Install, configure, patch, upgrade, optimize and troubleshoot and repair enterprise network and systems hardware and software (including operating systems, applications and databases) to maintain optimal performance.
  • Install, configure, optimize, update, patch and maintain server, client and network operating systems including, but not limited to: Microsoft desktop and server operating systems; Unix-based operating systems (e.g., Linux, Open Berkeley Software Distribution (Open BSD), Oracle Solaris, and Red Hat Enterprise, etc.); and Cisco IOS and NX-OS, and other proprietary operating systems.
  • Integrate and apply authorized third-party drivers, applications and software, and implement applicable security measures to properly secure government networks and systems.
  • Monitor network/systems hardware, software and services for indications of warnings, faults, errors, anomalies, alarm conditions and/or outages; and provide local and remote fault isolation, diagnostics, troubleshooting and restoration services locally and remotely.
  • Assist with configuration and cybersecurity program inspections and audits.
  • Assist the government’s Accountable Property Officers/Equipment Control Officers with communications and IT asset management.
  • Monitor queues for incoming requests, create new tickets for reported problems or incidents, document troubleshooting and actions taken, and update status and report within Remedy ITSM.
  • Provide continuity and on-the job training to contractor and government technical support personnel (CONUS and OCONUS) on both existing and proposed new network, systems and/or cybersecurity hardware, software and services at a depth and level sufficient to administer, operate, maintain and repair the equipment/systems and maintain technician crew position proficiency and certifications.

Qualifications

3+ years experience in systems and network support.  Associate’s degree in a related field.  Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirements.  Must be Security+ certified (or hold an equivalent certification in compliance with DoD 8570 IAT Level II).  Must be CCNA certified.  Must hold the ITIL v3 or v4 Foundations certification or be able to obtain the certification within 60 days of hire.  Must have experience with Microsoft Windows server installation, Active Directory, storage, performance management, and server maintenance.  Experience providing LAN/WAN support.  Experience with firewall administration.  Able to apply network engineering concepts and all layers of the OSI and DOD TCP/IP model.  Experience supporting DoD projects.  Must have strong communication skills and be able to interact professionally within all levels of an organization.  Must be able to provide support in a 24/7/365 environment including occasionally covering shifts outside of the assigned shift and/or providing after hours, weekend, or holiday support as needed on a rotational basis.  Must be able to travel to CONUS or OCONUS sites to provide TDY support.  Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
