Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking an Install and Repair Technician to provide telecommunications support for Aberdeen Proving Ground.  This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of Outside Plant (OSP) copper and fiber optic cabling systems for voice, data and video on customer premises. 
  • Review, understand, and execute project proposals/quotations/work orders, personnel requirements, equipment and cabling specifications, material management, tooling and transportation requirements for assigned project(s). 
  • Perform site survey(s) as directed by management. 
  • Provide "as built" documentation used to identify all materials, labor, equipment and tooling used on projects, invoice customer, show proof of satisfactory completion of project and provide or update final "formal" documentation as required by the project specifications. 
  • Ensure assigned projects are completed on time, within budget and to industry standards. 

Qualifications

2+ years experience in outside plant support including installation of telephone systems equipment and cabling plant.  Must be BISCI Installer 2 (Copper – INSTC or Optical Fiber – INSTF), HOLOCOM, and OSHA Confined Space certified.  Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing OSP cable systems.  Experience providing operations and maintenance support of copper, coaxial, and fiber optic cabling (aerial, buried, direct buried, and underground), protected terminals, grounding systems, manhole and conduit systems, connectors, and distribution frames.  Experience terminating, splicing, locating, marking, testing, tagging, and cross-connecting cables.  Experience with fiber optic test and splicing equipment.  Able to troubleshoot existing OSP infrastructure (fiber and copper faults).  Able to run OSP equipment such as trencher, backhoe, and loader.  Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
