Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Sr. Avionics Engineer to provide technical support at Robins AFB.  This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities

  • Support Aircraft Information Management Systems (AIMS) requirements/testing/certification and spectrum management requirements/testing/certification.  
  • Use Communications, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) requirements, policies, and regulations to define requirements, complete CNS/ATM compliance matrices, and support testing and certification of aircraft and supporting systems.  
  • Assist in reviewing/developing/updating applicable program documentation for avionics engineering relevant requirements. 
  • Support and assist systems analyses to include, avionics system design/design feasibility and state-of-the-art assessment.  
  • Assist the Government in developing systems/subsystem specifications.  
  • Assist in providing draft documentation defining system/subsystem specifications.  
  • Perform analyses of avionics and subsystems including but not limited to: system threat analysis, laser systems, computer systems, avionics interfaces, and multiplex bus communications, and identify potential issues and/or areas of improvement for Government consideration.  
  • Attend all technical reviews and provide technical advice on the path forward to installation of the new hardware and software into the system.  
  • Support and assist performance effectiveness, cost effectiveness, cost performance, life-cycle cost, producibility, maintainability, supportability, reliability, technical and schedule risk assessments, and scheduling trade-off studies.  
  • Assist in reviewing system specific test plans and participate in system, subsystem, and component testing.  
  • Assist in reviewing and performing assessments on program specific databases.  
  • Analyze Built in Test (BIT) failure reports and compare failure reports against the BIT.  
  • Review technical documents, determining sufficiency for demonstrating compliance with spec and airworthiness, summarizing findings, recommended changes, and communicating all results to program offices.  
  • Support technical interchange meetings with regards to updates/upgrades in area of controls and displays, data buses (including but not limited to MILSTD-1553B and ARINC-429), and data recording equipment.  
  • Support the avionics team in development of requirements for future upgrades to associated equipment.  
  • Apply knowledge in reviewing associated equipment airworthiness reports, in accordance with AFPD 62-6 USAF Airworthiness requirements.

Qualifications

15+ years experience in avionics engineering including at least 5 years working in a DoD environment.  Bachelor’s degree in a related field.  Possess the advanced knowledge, experience and recognized ability to be considered an expert in the technical/professional field, possess the ability to perform tasks and oversee the efforts of junior and journeyman personnel within the technical/professional discipline.  Demonstrate advanced knowledge of technical/professional discipline as well as possess a comprehensive understanding and ability to apply associated standards, procedures and practices in their area of expertise.  Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Applications, Adobe Acrobat, and applications for access to the world wide web including Microsoft Internet Explorer.  Knowledge of avionics engineering in support of avionics subsystem definition, development, integration, all verification methods to include review of ICDs, sustainment, modeling/simulation, test and evaluation, and airworthiness certification across a wide range of hardware and software systems.  Knowledge of Communications, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) requirements, policies, and regulations.  Knowledge in the area of controls and displays, data bus, and data recording development, test, sustainment and operations covering airborne vehicles’ controls and displays subsystems (including but not limited to cockpit displays and aerial refueling operator station displays) to include performance, integrity, and FAA and DoD airworthiness/certification.  Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
