Abacus Technology is seeking an Outside Plant Technician to install, remove, and relocate common telephone systems equipment in support of Base Telecommunications System (BTS) for Fort Hunter Liggett. This is a full-time position.
Splice, terminate, and test fiber optic cable to meet job requirements as specified in work order within time specified in contract work order priority. Perform cabling, power, grounding of various types of equipment and hardware using proper tools and safety practices. Perform various types of installations with minimal supervision using established quality and safety practices. Prepare cables, fiber or switchboard or power for terminations. Perform cabling, ironwork, wiring, basic splicing functions, cable and lead verification. Install, remove, or relocate various common telecommunication equipment. Provide support to inspect, repair, and replace pedestals and maintain responsibility for all communication poles. Inspect underground cable enclosures, pump excess water, and remove debris and foreign objects from the manhole/handholes on the installation. Maintain and repair/replace all cable-related defects within the manholes. Identify and validate all cabling (copper, fiber optic, co-axial, etc) traversing through all manhole/handholes and provide butterfly drawings with correct identification markings for each manhole.
2+ years experience in installation of telephone systems equipment and cabling plant. Must be BICSI Installer 2 (Copper/Fiber) and Technician certified or able to obtain the certifications within six months of hiring. Experience as a premise technician. Experienced in installation and test of CAT 3/5/5e/6, ISP/OSP fiber option cabling, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) data administration, remote alarm systems. Must be able to fusion splice fiber cables. Must have experience maintaining, installing, moving, and removing all cable, to include copper, coaxial, underground buried, aerial, fiber optic cable and transmission systems equipment; this includes all connectors, terminations, and ducts from point of demarcation to the installation point for the required service to include T-1, DSO, DS-3, Ethernet and optical carrier systems. Knowledge of DC power systems, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, established safety and quality practices. Able to perform cabling, ironwork, wiring, basic splicing functions, cable and lead verification, use basic method of procedure for job species and drawings; ability to test and turn up various communications equipment. Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
