    Abacus Technology is seeking a Sr. Safety Engineer to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  This is a full-time position.


    • Apply software, hardware, and standards knowledge in the analysis, specification, development, integration, and acquisition of systems for navigation services. Ensure these systems are compliant with FAA standards. 
    • Evaluate and recommend process for configuration management, safety, reliability, maintainability, integrity and other system engineering disciplines to improve navigation services.
    • Conduct studies and analysis for navigation services and provide data, information, databases and other products.
    • Support the development, maintenance and improvement of system engineering in the Navigation Services Directorate. Evaluate technical and operational requirements for systems and services in the NAS.
    • Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the systems engineering principles and processes or scientific work in a project or performs work which involves conventional engineering or scientific practice.
    • The work may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements and difficult coordination requirements. Plan, manage, and execute complex tasks and lead subordinate level positions.


    10+ years experience in system engineering in the aerospace industry including at least 2 years experience in specialized navigation.  Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline.  Master's degree in a principle or related discipline may substitute for 2 years of relevant experience.  Desirable skills include experience supporting the FAA, preferably in the areas of Safety analysis; Reliability, Maintainability, Availability (RMA) analysis; Risk management; and knowledge of system safety standards/guidelines such as MIL-STD-882C, RTCA/DO-178B.  Desired experience includes computer-based complex system development and analysis, GPS, Navigation systems, experience with FAA distributed systems, experience with FAA safety management systems, and experience with the Computer Aided Fault Tree Analysis (CAFTA) tool.  Experience with safety analysis techniques such as fault tree analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, and Hazard Tracking is also desired.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.  Experience with Microsoft office products including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Access database as well as analysis of computer-based distributed systems are required.  Must be a US citizen.
