Abacus Technology is seeking a Telephone Technician to repair, replace, program, and maintain telecommunication systems and equipment. This is a full-time position.
Provide administration, management, operation, and maintenance of telephone switch and associated equipment. Support equipment installation, placement, or relocation, including system checkout, test, and maintenance. Operate the telephone switch and associated hardware respectively in accordance with manufacturer manuals. Start and configure the switch, respond to console messages, execute available diagnostic routines, and monitor system status for each switch. Power down and start up the system(s): mount and remove disks, cartridges, or tapes; select input/output files; load programs, files, and data base(s); and perform recoveries from machine stops or malfunctions. Perform disk, cartridge, or tape backup of the switch memory every seven days. Perform system/data administration on all equipment and software. Perform software functions and translations for any add, move, change, delete, query of a circuit or system data, directory assistance, service order, trouble assistance, records administration, and call usage documentation. Perform minor installations as part of O&M and assist during major installations. Perform traffic measurements and analysis/studies for the telephone switching system(s). Perform call detail recording and analysis/studies for the telephone switching system(s). Provide remote support for maintenance, testing, and diagnostics. Provide routine replacement of failed Line Replaceable Units (LRU) using stock and repair facilities.
5+ years experience providing telephone or telecommunication systems support. Must be Security+ certified (or hold one of the DoD 8570 IAT-II certifications. Must be certified on Nortel SL-100 or Meridian I/Succession 1000 family of switches. Experience with installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of telecommunication systems and equipment. Must have the technical knowledge to solve problems, understand the interrelationship of circuits, and exercise judgment in performing tasks. Experience with the following: Avaya Communication Server (CS) 2100 and 1000 Telephone Switch Systems; OPTera Optical Metro Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET) Multiplexers; Nortel Meridian Cabinet Remote Module-SONET (MCRMS) Remote Telephone Switch; 48 VDC Battery, Rectifier, and Inverter Systems; SecureLogic Enterprise Telephony Management (ETM) System; Dialogic Corporation (formerly Veraz) DTX-600 Digital Circuit Multiplication Equipment (DCME) and associated ION Security Devices; FEI-Zyfer and Symmetricom GPS Time and Frequency Systems; VENTRAQ Net Plus and Unique Communications CAIRS Telecommunications Management Systems; Callware Technologies Callagra/Meridian Mail/Call Pilot voice mail systems; Analog and Digital Lines, Switch Interface Systems, and Associated Equipment; Tellabs Echo - cancellation and Transcoder compression equipment; T-Metrix operator consoles; Sonus VX Series Voice Exchange Equipment; REDCOM switches; Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Equipment (AVAYA AURA AS-5300, Cisco Unified Communication Manager, etc.); and Cassidian E911 System Defense Switched Network (DSN) Equipment. Experience in telephony and cable systems architecture, integration techniques, and testing methods. Experience in a lead or supervisory role is a plus. Able to analyze complexities of existing technology, understanding of maintenance and administration position testing applications, and be able to read, assess, and understand testing results. May be required to crawl under/behind customer work environments to gain access networking equipment. Must be willing to live and work overseas. Must be willing to travel extensively throughout Southwest Asia. Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
