    Abacus Technology is seeking a Programmer IV to provide software development and support for the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson AFB.  This is a full-time position.


    Support AFRL requirements for development of custom software utilities, to include interface modules required for the AFRL Enterprise Business System (EBS), and, when appropriate, coordinate with AFRL leadership, the EBS Program Office, and any other offices necessary to accomplish these tasks.  Assist Directorate customers in developing business or productivity applications, including: documenting requirements and specifications, identifying solutions, and acquiring, implementing, documenting, training, testing and validating applications.  Develop Windows-based client applications to include connections to Oracle, Microsoft SQL or other database systems employed by the Directorate.  Support research in the areas of computational research by assisting research contractors and personnel in the development of applications and models related to this functional area.  Provide support for activities related to the configuration management process that identify the functional and physical characteristics of a software item, control changes to those characteristics during its life cycle, and record and report change processing and implementation status.  Provide configuration management for software, related contract deliverables including contract licensing and warranty documentation.  Provide inputs for strategic investment in IT assets, to include analysis of purchase versus lease considerations, providing cost-benefit, and trade-off options, analysis of scalability of software, systems, and networks.  Provide support for analyses, developing solutions, planning and coordinating tasks, maximizing overall system efficiency, providing for seamless integration or migration, and optimizing usability and effectiveness in this functional area.  Provide support for investigation of hardware, software, and communications compatibility issues, and analysis of development, test, and implementation plans, as well as formulation of best practices for carrying out technical and developmental activities.  Maintain metrics data measures of responsiveness, completeness, and effectiveness of the service, and report data to stakeholders.  Assist Information Assurance personnel in accordance with pertinent regulations and directives.  Support conduct of IT related training for Government personnel and supporting contractors.  Support Information Assurance/Cybersecurity programs carried out in full compliance with relevant Federal, DoD, AF, AFMC, Base, and Organizational regulations, instructions, and procedures.


    5-8 years experience in software development.  Bachelor’s degree in a related field.  In-depth experience with all phases of the software development life cycle and knowledge of a wide array of software languages.  Experience working closely with the end user to verify product will meet business requirements.  Capable of working with the network or systems team to ensure proper integration of software applications into the existing infrastructure.  Must be detail oriented and have excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.  Requires good communications skills and the ability to work professionally with all levels of an organization.  Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
