Abacus Technology is seeking a Network Optimization Engineer to provide LAN/WAN technical support for an enterprise level network. This is a full-time position.
Monitor/analyze multiple customer WAN and LAN networks to ensure network bandwidth and port capacity to meet customer metrics. Support existing network configurations and planning for new network configurations. Support integration into existing networks to maintain optimal performance. Develop and implement methodologies for analysis, documentation, and reporting on various networks. Provide support in the translation of business requirements into technical requirements, designs and orders. Analyze the current network and system performance. Prepare technical proposals for presentation to the government management team for adding new technologies to the network. Review user requests for upgrades or additions to the network to eliminate impact on network performance, improve survivability, and provide feedback to the network engineers. Utilize network analysis tools to identify problems in the network, review and assess strategies for minimizing risk and vulnerabilities, and make recommendations to the program and government management teams regarding improvements. Coordinate with the configuration management and implementation teams. Analyze network characteristics (e.g., traffic, connect time, transmission speeds, packet sizes, and throughput); recommend procurement, removals, and modifications to network components. Assess and document current site network configuration and user requirements.
At least one year experience in a network administration or engineering role. Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT II or higher certification required. Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, MCSE, and/or ITIL v3 a plus. Hands-on experience with physical network infrastructure (switches, routers). Must have experience with network implementation, and maintenance. Knowledge of SNMP, Cisco, Brocade, Juniper, Asante, routers and switches. Experience with common network management tools such as SolarWinds, HP Business Technology Optimization (BTO), HP OpenView, Nagios, ArchSite security information and event management (SIEM) and What’s Up Gold. Able to maintain current knowledge and skills through in-services, workshops, and/or seminars. Demonstrate flexibility in adjusting to variable workload and job duties. Able to plan and implement projects without supervision. Knowledge of communications and information security policies and practices. Able to work independently or as part of a team and interact professionally within all levels of an organization. Must be a US citizen and hold a current TS/SCI with CI Poly.
