  • Overview

    Abacus Technology is seeking a Network Engineer to provide technical support for the Network Infrastructure Support Services (NISS) program at the Social Security Administration (SSA).  This is a full-time position. 

    Responsibilities

    Provide technical analysis in data network planning, engineering, and design for large multi-data center enterprise network with over 1,700 remote locations.  Provide analysis for implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to network problems.  Architect LAN and WAN networks, track significant problems, monitor performance, and provide upgrades recommendation to hardware and software as required.  Maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexes, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.  Coordinate third-party maintenance for network equipment and troubleshoot problems with department users and department network administrators.  Develop uniform operation procedures to maintain and update configuration and operating system of the networking equipment.  Work under consultative direction with the customer and peer toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives.  Develop advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final product.  Determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results.  Act as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.

    Qualifications

    5+ years experience hands-on network engineering experience.  Bachelor’s degree in a related field.  Must be CCNP certified.  Must have at least 3 years of hands-on experience with LAN/WAN traffic engineering tools and implementation.  Must have at least 6 months experience with Quality of Service (QoS) for the enterprise networks or service provider networks.  Knowledge and experience with the following is desired: scripting languages such as Python and Expect; Service Provider Network equipment; WAN technologies and Service Provider and Local Exchange Carrier circuits; PERL scripting; Cisco networks; WAN technologies; LAN technologies such as Ethernet, wireless LAN as well as the physical media and equipment associated with each; IP routing protocols and implementations; networking and core Internet protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP, and distributed networks); network traffic encryptions algorithm and data protecting mechanisms; and network connectivity for physical and virtualized servers and Public/Private Cloud Services.  Able to demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical topics to management and non-technical audiences, as well as interface with the customer on a daily basis.  Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Public Trust clearance.  Must be US Citizen or US Permanent Resident (green card holder).
