Abacus Technology is seeking a Network Specialist to provide maintenance and operational support for the Passive Optical Network (PON) to Andrews AFB. This is a full-time position.
Deliver comprehensive customer IT support to include transitioning (moves, adds and changes), operating, maintaining, restoring, protecting, backups and refreshing PON infrastructure systems, components and data. Ensure all components of the PON system including Servers, Panorama Element Management System, Databases, Optical Line Terminals (OLT), Optical Network Terminals (ONT), Operating Systems, Switches, Routers, Firmware, Software and Hardware are kept updated to meet or exceed all industry standards. Provide technical support for the Non-Secure Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNet) PON and Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNet) PON. Ensure all components of the PON systems are functional, current and up-to-date with the latest vulnerability patches and security updates, to include but not limited to, all Defense Information System Agency (DISA)/Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIGs), Department of Defense (DoD) and Air Force (AF) Time Compliant Network Order (TCNOs), and vulnerability patches recommended by DISA, the Air Force, Tellabs or other relevant commercial entities and the Government. Support the acquisition of new software, firmware and hardware by conducting research and loading any applicable updates to PON equipment or of replacement PON equipment as directed by the Government. Ensure all PON equipment is in compliance with all Air Force Enterprise Configuration Management Policies and listed on all relevant inventories. Create and maintain a disaster recovery plan for the PON system, update the plan quarterly, and present it to the Government upon request.
5+ years experience in network administration or engineering. Bachelor’s degree in a related field desired. Must hold the Tellabs 11XX Optical LAN Deployment and Support Certification as well as the Security+ certification. Must have extensive experience with PON/Tellabes network design/administration, Windows Server administration, Panorama EMS, and managing Oracle databases and UNIX systems. Experience in all phases of the engineering lifecycle including: requirements; architecture; design; implementation; testing; and operations and maintenance. Thorough knowledge of routers, switches, and firewalls. Able to assess infrastructure, identify areas for improvement, and recommend solutions. Able to provide technical guidance and direction to team members and lower level technicians. Knowledge of relevant server-side tools and technologies. Experience with network monitoring and management using an automated solution. Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining servers and desktops in an enterprise organization. Extensive experience with security as it pertains to network architecture, desktops, laptops, servers, firewalls, routers, and intrusion detection systems (IDS). Solid customer service and communication skills are critical as well as the ability and willingness to communicate effectively and appropriately in an empathetic and understanding manner. Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
