    Abacus Technology is seeking a LAN Technician to provide network and infrastructure support for an enterprise level network at Joint Base Langley-Eustis.  This is a full-time position. 


    Operate and manage the LAN and provide network and personal computer support for the staff to ensure optimal capabilities to meet current and future organizational needs.  Ensure service level agreements are in place and define areas of responsibility.  Maintain the appropriate Operating Instructions covering internal processes.  Ensure the effective operation of the LAN and other information systems and will take actions to maintain the operational capabilities and resolve any issues, including 24/7 support for critical, time-sensitive issues.  Maintain back-up and retrieval systems and conduct periodic testing to verify the system capabilities.  Assist the Unit Software License Manager, Information System Security Officer, and Equipment Custodian in maintaining the system configurations and will conduct account inventories.  Prioritize each issue, focus on quickly resolving each issue with minimal downtime and ensuring all suspense deadlines are met.  Monitor and evaluate the information systems to identify opportunities for improvement (enhanced efficiencies) and capability gaps as the organization plans for changes due to new or changing programs and staff alignment.  Support working groups to assist in identifying and analyzing information technology needs (e.g., knowledge sharing requirements (internal and external), hardware/software changes/upgrades, new technologies) to meet current and future program requirements and organizational changes (reorganizations, organizational movements) to ensure continued continuity of services.  Conduct network studies and develop roadmaps that can be used to plan, budget and implement system enhancements/upgrades.  Recommend hardware and software configurations needed to implement the established plans including emphasizing the use of existing resources and minimizing additional future investments.  Work with the staff to identify information sharing requirements (e.g., originators, administrators and users) and constraints and help ensure the timely and accurate flow of information through the use of shared resources and security controls.  Provide desktop system purchasing assistance, when requested.


    3+ years experience in a network support or technical support role. Bachelor’s degree in a related field desired.  Must be Security+ certified.  Hands-on experience with physical network infrastructure (switches, routers).  Experience with network implementation and maintenance.  Knowledge of Cisco routers and switches.  Able to maintain current knowledge and skills through in-services, workshops, and/or seminars.  Able to interact professionally with all levels of an organization.  Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
