Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Gateway Decommissioning Engineer to provide infrastructure support for the Command, Control, Communication, Intelligence and Networks (C3I&N) Directorate at Hanscom AFB.  This is a full-time position.   

Responsibilities

Support deployment and sustainment of network boundary equipment and provide systems engineering support for the AFNet Gateways program office.  Perform technical documentation review, technical and operational networking support, and review of contractor and vendor documentation.  Work as part of a team or independently to solve problems.  Troubleshoot network issues, provide subject matter expertise on TCP/IP routing and subnetting of local and wide area networks, MPLS, IPsec, VPNs.  Perform functional analysis, detailed network trade studies, requirements specification and allocation and interface definition studies to translate operational requirements into hardware and software specifications.  Apply industry best practices in IT Security, Systems Engineering, and Integration and Testing.  Work with system integrators on Use Case development and execution, PIRs and CIRs, and contractor technical product reviews.  Ensure that all system functional requirements are successfully acquired, validated, and tested.  Provide support for generation, review, approval, and implementation of change modification proposals using the Remedy/EITSM system for accuracy, completeness, and remediation.  Provide detailed knowledge of systems engineering in support of IT system definition, integration, and test.

 

Qualifications

7+ years experience in network administration or engineering.   Bachelor’s degree in a related field.  Work related certifications are a plus.  Experience in all phases of the engineering lifecycle including: requirements; architecture; design; implementation; testing; and operations and maintenance.  Thorough knowledge of routers, switches, and firewalls.  Able to assess infrastructure, identify areas for improvement, and recommend solutions.  Able to provide technical guidance and direction to system administrators and help desk technicians.  Knowledge of relevant server-side tools and technologies.  Experience with network monitoring and management using an automated solution.  Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining servers and desktops in an enterprise organization.  Extensive experience with security as it pertains to network architecture, desktops, laptops, servers, firewalls, routers, and intrusion detection systems (IDS).  Solid customer service and communication skills are critical as well as the ability and willingness to communicate effectively and appropriately in an empathetic and understanding manner.  Must be a US Citizen.
