  • Overview

    Abacus Technology is seeking a Cabling Project Manager to oversee a team providing cable support through installation, termination, and testing.  This is a full-time position.

     

    DULUTH EIT SERVICES:  Abacus Technology is hiring immediately for a recently-awarded large, long-term program.  Full Scope Polygraph is required. Abacus has been selected as a subcontractor to provide regional enterprise IT services and devices to the end-user workforce of a large Government agency located across the Northeastern United States. IT Services include campus area networks and local area networks supporting end user desktop/laptop/tablet, phone, printers, copiers, and wireless devices. DULUTH interacts with a Global Service Desk and provides data and status for regional enterprise services.

    Responsibilities

    Manage multiple Cabling Managers on different projects and/or one large program.  Ensure the quality of workmanship, safety and documentation per project.  Perform at least one quality and Safety Coaching Observation on each project bi-weekly.  Initiate disciplinary actions for those employees working directly under the Cabling Manager.  Identify and initiate work-around procedures, and work with Cabling Manager and Cabling Supervisors to assist in maintaining crew productivity during delays caused by other trades, customer, material delays, absenteeism, etc. in conjunction with the project schedule.  Manage a project of approximately 30 – 70 hourly and management personnel with little or no direction from the Cabling Supervisor.  Interface regularly with the Client, Architect, Cabling Engineer, or Cabling Draftsman on contractual, financial, cost, scheduling, technical or any other area related to the project(s) under the Cabling Manager’s supervision.  Develop detailed status reports containing financial results, physical progress, productivity, change in scope and other issues as it pertains to the project(s) under the Cabling Supervisor’s direction.  Support contract agreements and negotiations with potential subcontractors or minority vendors.  Monitor projects for P&L margins to meet or exceed estimates.  Direct multiple Cabling Managers in realizing changes to the scope of work, and the documentation and approval of change orders.  Report, coordinate, and supervise all aspects of a project.  Exhibit a superior ability to work independently, performing site surveys for estimates, proposal preparation, or quality assurance.  Provide documentation, reports, and information to Cabling Supervisor as requested.  Initiate and monitor installation standards, as well as technical and supervisory training sessions (on the job training) for other Technicians and junior crew members.  Assure and enforce a comprehensive safety program in accordance with the company’s commitment to provide each employee with a safe and healthy work environment.

    Qualifications

    14+ years experience in cable support and management and at least 5 years of project management experience.  Must have a high school diploma or GED.  Associate’s degree may substitute for 2 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree may substitute for 4 years of experience if the degree is in a related field.  Thorough working knowledge of reading RFP’s, blueprints, specifications, contractual language and project scheduling (Microsoft Project) and system documentation.  Familiar with Microsoft applications, Internet, P&L tracking reports, ability to estimate scheduling of material and man hours.  Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to work with multiple stakeholders.  Must be able to effectively develop a detailed Statement of Work and estimates.  Able to meet project completion schedules, labor, and material cost budgets.  Willing to further oneself through an on-going education and certifications including but not limited to corporate or specialty courses.  Able to manage time and priorities effectively.  Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.  Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.  Outstanding communication skills to relate with team members and support workers.  Must be a US citizen and hold an active/current TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph.
