Abacus Technology is seeking of a Network Engineer to provide infrastructure support for the Command, Control, Communication, Intelligence and Networks (C3I&N) Directorate at Hanscom AFB. This is a full-time position.
Direct/monitor information systems operations. Design, build, and implement network systems. Troubleshoot network performance issues. Analyze network traffic and provide capacity planning solutions. Monitor and respond to complex technical control facility hardware and software problems. Interface with vendor support service groups to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance. Manage the purchase, testing, installation, and support of network communications, including LAN/MAN/WAN systems. Perform system-level design and configuration of products including determination of hardware, OS, and other platform specifications. Support system engineering related tasks including major systems design, integration, and implementation, including personnel, hardware, software, budgetary, and support facilities and/or equipment. Provide quality assurance review and the evaluation of new and existing software products. Provide assistance and oversight for all information systems operations activities, including computer and communications operations, data entry, data control, LAN/MAN/WAN administration and operations support, operating systems programming, system security policy procedures, and/or web strategy and operations. Provide input to policy level discussions regarding standards and budget constraints. Monitor and respond to hardware, software, and network problems. Troubleshoot network systems when necessary and makes improvements to the network.
5+ years experience in a network administrator or engineering role. Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Must meet DoD 8570 certification requirements. Cisco, Brocade, HP, or Juniper certifications highly desired. Advanced industry network certifications, such as CISSP, CSSLP, and/or CASP a plus. Must be able to use/configure/troubleshoot/operate Cisco, Juniper, Brocade and HP network devices. Must have full knowledge of the OSI model to include all 7 layers, and protocols. Must be able to use modern network troubleshooting tools. Must be able to model complex networks. Must be able to perform network analysis. Must be able compare contractor network designs with Government requirements and determine non-compliance issues and obtain rationale from the contractors. Must understand firewalls (both classic and next generation). Must understand and be able to implement 802.1x solutions. Should be familiar with DOD acquisition process. Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to work as part of a team or independently. Must be a US Citizen.
