Abacus Technology is seeking a Systems Server Administrator to install, support, and maintain servers or other computer systems, and planning for and responding to service outages and other problems. This is a full-time position at NASA Headquarters and local offsite facilities.
Maintain operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with storage and network engineers. Set up administrator and management service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocate mass storage space. Employ operating system upgrades, patches, and configuration changes. Add, remove, or update user account information and interact with users and evaluate vendor products. Document the configuration of the system and troubleshoot and report anomalies. Make recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinate installation, and provide backup recovery. Develop and monitor policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. Ensure network infrastructure is running.
Positions available at multiple experience levels including entry (0-2 years), intermediate (2-5 years), senior (5-11 years), specialist (11-16 years), and senior specialist (16+ years). Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s or graduate degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience. Must have or be willing to attend training in the following areas: CMMI; cybersecurity and sensitive unclassified information awareness; IT security awareness; and NASA elevate privileges. Understanding of system administration standards and industry principles, theories, and concepts. Able to provide solutions to a variety of system problems. At the specialist and senior specialist levels, must be able to develop and manage complex solutions with minimal supervision or guidance and handle a wide degree of latitude. At the specialist level, capable of acting as a consultant to management for major matters concerning system administration. At the senior specialist level, able to serve as the organization spokesperson on projects and/or programs and act as an advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies. Solid communication skills are critical. Must be a US citizen and hold an active Secret clearance.
