Abacus Technology is seeking an IT Security Engineer to plan and carry out computer security measures to protect company and customer computer networks and systems from cyber attacks. This is a full-time position at NASA Headquarters and local offsite facilities.
Design, test, and implement secure operating systems, networks, and database products. Perform functions to monitor and evaluate operations and potential threat to ensure databases and systems are protected. Conduct risk assessment and provides recommendations for application design. Involved in a wide range of security issues including architectures, firewalls, electronic data traffic, and network access. Monitor organization and customer network for security breaches and investigate violations. Plan and carry out customers procedures of controlling security. Use encryption technology, penetration and vulnerability analysis of various security technologies, and information technology security research for the latest technology trends. Provide security reports to management, customer, and/or regulatory agencies.
Positions available at multiple experience levels including entry (0-2 years), intermediate (2-5 years), senior (5-11 years), specialist (11-16 years), and senior specialist (16+years). Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s or graduate degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience. Must have or be willing to attend training in the following areas: CMMI; cybersecurity and sensitive unclassified information awareness; IT security awareness; and NASA elevate privileges. Understanding of IT security principles, theories, and concepts. Able to provide solutions to a variety of software problems. At the specialist and senior specialist levels, must be able to develop and manage complex solutions with minimal supervision or guidance and handle a wide degree of latitude. At the specialist level, capable of representing the organization as prime technical contact on contracts and projects. At the senior specialist level, able to serve as the organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs and act as an advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications. Solid communication skills are critical. Must be a US citizen and hold an active Secret clearance.
