Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Switch Technician to repair, replace, program, and maintain switches for Creech AFB.  This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities

Provide customer support, assistance, and orientation for Avaya S8700 and Core Server switches and related telephony infrastructure systems utilized by IT users.  Interact with users to repair, replace, program, and maintain all switches, peripherals, software, hardware configurations, and communication networking equipment ensuring proper system operation.  Be able to perform translations to support call routing, traffic measurement reports, transmission equipment, ancillary equipment, line feature additions or changes, and establish new lines and trunks. Provide technical assistance to current and potential users to mitigate IT systems operations disruptions.  Provide technical hands-on and remote access assistance with telephone installations, hardware configurations, and communication networking.  Administer customer voicemail accounts and provide initial orientation to new customers.  Create and delete user accounts, assign and reset passwords.  Manage infrastructure devices and systems using the latest approved software tools.  Participate in meetings, discussions, committees, or special IT projects as needed.  Analyze areas of concern, identify problems, and resolve conflicts as they arise.  Review, update, and generate documents supporting the communication systems. 

Qualifications

5+ years’ experience providing inside plant support for telephone or telecommunication systems.  Avaya certification a plus.  Extensive experience with Avaya Voice switching platform CM 6.3.  Experience with CM 7 desired.  Experienced with the Avaya S8700 and Core Server (HP DL360G7) switches as well as familiarity with S8800 Media Server with Voice over IP (VoIP) solution and related switch concepts.  Experience in telephony and cable systems architecture, integration techniques, and testing methods.  Experience as a premise technician a plus.  Able to analyze complexities of existing technology, understanding of maintenance and administration position testing applications, and be able to read, assess, and understand testing results.  May be required to crawl under/behind customer work environments to gain access to networking equipment.  Must be a US citizen.
