Abacus Technology is seeking a Database Architect and Manager to support database administration, data modeling, and architecture. This is a full time position at NASA Headquarters and local offsite facilities.
Lead and implement architectures, data policies and practices, and data procedures for management of an information lifecycle. Monitor, administer, and maintain databases and database groups within NASA Headquarters ITCD. Develop logical data models and physical database designs. Identify and define database design alternatives and configuration options.
10+ years experience in database administration, management, and architecture. Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Able to act as the subject matter expert of database administration, data modeling, data architecture, database design, data cleanup, data performance, etc. Able to advise applications development staff on data management, data architectures, data management, facilities/utilities/tools, analyzes database, and perform database tuning. Experience in configuring, developing, and maintaining automated tools for database design, configuration, implementation, testing, and monitoring. Able to develop, maintain, and document JCL, shell scripts, and batch processes. Able to provide database security backup and recovery support. Experience with utilizing data masking tools. Experience installing databases and related software. Hands on experience with database performance testing is critical. Experience evaluating and analyzing SQL statements for troubleshooting and root cause analysis. Understanding of database concepts such as replication or parallel operations. Expertise in current industry/market database software. Familiarity with NASA HQ application architecture, understanding and experience with supporting database architecture initiatives is desired. Proven experience serving as a Data Architect for medium and large highly complex systems. Experience in using design and architecture application suite of tools (SQL, Oracle, Sybase, etc.). Proven experience in the Agile development life cycle desired. Must be a US citizen.
