Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking an Application Architect to provide enterprise support for business and scientific applications.  This is a full time position at NASA Headquarters and local offsite facilities.

Responsibilities

Conduct application architecture initiatives, such as, identifying and classifying applications and application components in accordance with the specific business and performance objectives they support and the technologies they employ.  Document and perform analyses of the current application inventory and provide detailed application architecture guidelines to improve both business and technology processes and applications in the interest of integration and cost containment.  These analyses may include perspectives, such as Gartner Magic Quadrant, interoperability capability, performance and scalability, reliability and availability, application lifecycle stage, and technological risks.  Perform design and code reviews.  Create, maintain, and analyze object oriented architecture designs.  Document, implement, and manage the use of well-known architecture design patterns.  Analyze business and technical requirements to demonstrate the most appropriate system architecture and design.  Develop application design standards and guidelines.

Qualifications

7+ years experience in application or systems architecture.  Bachelor’s degree in a related field.  Experience designing major aspects of the architecture of an application, including such components as user interface, middleware, systems integration, and infrastructure.  Able to create application and system integration architecture standards.  Able to communicate both verbally and in writing all architecture concepts, standards, and guidelines to development teams.  Capable of providing technical coaching to the application development teams.  Experience overseeing progress of development teams to ensure consistency with the application architecture design.  Able to ensure that developed software meets all requirements for quality, security, modifiability, extensibility, sustainability, and scalability and that enterprise-wide application design and architecture standards are maintained and adhered to.  Able to performing design and code reviews; create, maintain, and analyze object oriented architecture designs; and document, implement, and manage the use of well-known architecture design patterns.  Experience developing application design standards and guidelines.  Able to maintain knowledge of existing technology trends pertaining to application architecture design.  Experience with NASA HQ application architecture familiarity, understanding and experience with supporting application architecture initiatives is desired.  Understanding of NASA HQ ITCD Business Architecture, Information Architecture, and IT Infrastructure and Technology Architecture desired.  Proven experience in implementing and complying with the Federal Enterprise Architecture guidelines.  Experience in complying with NASA application development policies, standards, and operating procedures a plus.  Hands-on/proven mobile application development experience.  Must be a US citizen.
